Oh, Brotherly Love Is So Grand!

Hormone Boy spent the whole week at home due to provincial exams in his high school.

Since 8th graders don't partake in those particular exams they get to chill at home for a week and annoy their stay at home parents....lucky me.

The week started pretty well until I got a phone call from his English teacher informing me that my A and B student is failing English due to 11 missed assignment.

The sad part is that all the assignment he did finish got him 85%-100%.

The reason for missing them? His reason given to the teacher: DIABETES ISSUES - high sugar levels.

If you are my regular reader you know that Hormone Boy has type 1 diabetes since he was 8 and he's been rebelling BIG TIME last few months.

Poor teacher didn't know how to bring up his medical condition and how to tell me that he's been strolling into her class recently with slushies and bags of candy. Finally I got it out of her and explained that I do want to know all of her concerns and all of his STUPIDITY.

Interesting fact....in order for HB to use his blood sugars as an excuse he would have to check them FIRST!

Two weeks ago we just caught him and grounded him for not checking his sugars at school at all.

HB's response.....NO ANSWER....I asked few more questions.....NO ANSWERS!!!!

This kid is driving me up the wall...SILVER LINING opportunity here - he had lots of work and catching up to do during the week...

....till I found this in the kitchen. A sure sign that he is not feeling well FOR REAL!

He might be a pain in the behind, rebel with a cause and born to be mild....he is very careful about putting away his supplies.

After I found this I went to look for him

and I found this. Yes Karma is a  ***. He is in bed sick with high blood sugar.

Of curse his little brother totally takes advantage of   HB being under the weather with little remarks like this:

LP (making sure HB hears him): "Mom I am your favorite and your angel, right?"

ME: "Yes, you are my angel, but what is HB?"

LP: "He is and always will be one LONELY,LONELY boy!"

LP: " Oh, and CHOPPED LIVER that's why the dog likes him"

Oh that brotherly LOVE. I am pretty sure there is a wedgie waiting for him when HB feels better.

Pink Ruffled Jammies Bring Out The Fighting Words

Let me set the mood for you....

It's Monday night....queen is still in her feeling sorry for herself funk. She's channeling Carrie Bradshaw wearing pretty pink pyjama bottoms with white ruffles (Original Sex and The City apparel her BFF bought her).

Little Peanut enters.....

LP: "Mommy, I am ready....come on....I'll be late for hockey....I'm goalie tonight.....come on"

Queen: "Give me a second. I just need to put on some other pants."

LP:" Why you look just fine and so pretty?"

Queen: " I am wearing my pink jammies!"

LP: "So????? They look pretty and you like pink."

Queen: " You wouldn't mind if the boys in the dressing room would tease you about your crazy mama wearing pink jammies to the ice rink?"

LP:" No, why would I? I will introduce them to my buddies Righty and Lefty. They would think they are in the space that's how many stars they would see. And if that's not enough I would kick their ass so hard they would forget their name." .....few seconds pause...."what were we talking about, again?"

Queen: (speechless and bit frighten) "Me wearing pink jammies to the hockey arena ."

LP: "Oh, that....you'll be fine...let's go"

....and that's why I love him so minus the violence and the usage of the word ass , but frankly I am little bit scared right now. I don't want to be introduced to Righty and Lefty.

For those of you who want to know I did change my pants.

BTW, he is my sweet and none violent child. I have no clue where that came from. Nobody better mess with his mother.

After hockey I made him Heart Shaped Brownies....better keep him on my good side. If you want to make these cute heart shaped brownies I posted step by step on Daily Organized Chaos.

This Can Happen To You

Yesterday I was visiting my bloggy friend Melissa @ Day 2 Day.

Every Wednesday Melissa is trying to bring awareness to something important.

This week I learned that January is American Poverty Awareness Month. Did you know that?

American Poverty Awareness Month, how sad is that? There always was poverty and homelessness, but last few years so many people who never dreamed it would happen to them ended up homeless and below poverty line.

All these people depend on charity and help from ordinary people like you and me.

Lets face it, the governments are not doing much to help.Children in North America don't have enough to eat. Parents can't afford basic school supplies, clothes and diapers. After school activities become only memories.

Are we slowly turning into third world country? The gap between rich and poor is growing every second.

I know from experience how easy it is to become poor and homeless.

When my husband lost his job overnight in 2008 we didn't have time to plan or think what the next step will be. If it wasn't for my family and my best friend I would have to rely on the Food Bank myself and I would not be able to afford insulin and supplies for my son.

After three months of not being able to find a job the bills were piling up, the credit card companies started to call. CIBC bank took as to a collection (first time for both of us) after 12 years of being a loyal customers which added to our stress. My husband felt into deep denial and depression.

I realized how people like us can easily end up on the street. You can't keep positive for ever when you can't get a job and feed your kids. You can't keep positive when every company that wants to hire you goes out of business or has to downsize before you even get the chance to start or shortly after.

It took AJ 13 months to get another "stable" job. It's been over a year and we are still catching up and fixing all the financial damage, but I thank God that AJ was able to find a job that pays the bills.

He had to take a job away from us and we see him only few days a months, but it is better then the alternative.

I know that many people are not as lucky as AJ and I. These people rely on help from strangers and we all have to remember that EVERY LITTLE HELPS and you never know when stranger will help you.

So next time when you walk by a box for Food Bank donations make sure you drop something in it.

Next time when you walk by a person in need buy them a good meal and a cup of coffee and take time to talk to them.

Next time when you walk by a person in need DON'T ASSUME....this could be you.

Something Happened On the Way To The Golden Globes

Things are finally getting back to our "normal" in the KINGDOM and as much as we miss AJ the show must go on.

Speaking of show must on....Sunday I ventured out to see my best friend and we were watching little bit of the Golden Globes Awards.

Let me ask you? What was with the Hair Dos? They were all dressed up in expensive gowns and tuxedos and you look up and there hope not is a family of birds and in some cases rats living in their hair.

Annette Bening....Al Pacino....Helena Bonham Carter.....and the list goes on.

I have a few theories on what happened to their hair:

  1. Random chosen celebrities had to enter the Golden Globes through a wind tunnel (they had to press a little light like at the Mexican airport and the ones with red....Ooops, sorry....enter through the wind tunnel)
  2. The Hollywood hairdressers and stylists were on strike and these celebrities can't do their own hair
  3. It was a ploy to see if anybody was watching the Golden Globes (got me there)
Now, the sad part is I don't think any of my theories are right and these people just PAID TOO MUCH to their stylists.

I don't want to be a hypocrite and deny the fact that I sport some of the same hair Dos free of charge every single day....WHEN I WAKE UP!!!

Then I brush it, sometimes wash it and most of the time I style it.....and then I go out in public grocery store.

Anyway, what do you think happened?

In another news....

Sunday was my best friend's little girl's daughter I finally got and can give back when she's a pain 3rd birthday and she's our princess so I made her Princess Castle Cake....my very first so some of the details are not the best, but I sure tried.
Also I've been working very hard on my Daily Organized Chaos trying to make it a family site full of great information, tips, recipes and fun projects. I would really, really appreciate if you took little bit of time and browse around.....maybe follow....give me your opinion.....spread the word.

Since I grew up in Europe till the wonderful age of 21 the songs of my youth are mostly in Slovak or Czech with some exceptions.

I don't want to make it easy on you so I decided to share with you the songs that ruled my world in the early 80'.

Close your eyes and imagine you are a rebellious 15 year old in former Czechoslovakia.....

First....my favorite Slovak group Elan that is still playing and going strong since 1968.

Next is Czech singer and a big crush of my teenage hormonal days.....Michal David.

Hope you enjoyed the little journey into Slovak and Czech music.

I Knew This Day Will Come...Eventually

Last few days I've been cranky, moody and all around not a nice person to be with.

I hide in my office pretend to work just so I don't have to deal with anything.

My family keeps asking me what's wrong and of course the response is "NOTHING".

I know what's wrong and I am pretty sure Average Joe knows what's wrong and he's just not pushing the issues.

Average Joe works away from home....far away from home. He has been home with us for last 7 months due to a knee surgery.

Today....AJ is LEAVING again!

Me and the boys got used to having daddy home....to play with....to laugh with....to help around the house...to attend all of their concerts....hockey games....activities.

I got used to snuggling on a sofa every night after he puts the boys to bed......going to bed and being kissed....telling me I need to step away from my laptop and take a break.....being hugged in a hallway just because.....

I know I am being selfish because AJ is the one who is without his family for long periods of time.....he's the one who misses many celebrations and milestones.....he is the one who doesn't get daily hugs and kisses.

I know I will be fine and everything will get back to "normal". I know I will find my groove again, the boys will step up to the responsibility and I will embrace my part time single motherhood again.

It's just I need to get over the initial hump and realization that he's gone.....AGAIN.

Being January and feeling mild Winter Blues coming on is not helping the situation. That's why I needed to get this out so I can move on and be the best wife and best mom I can be.

For all of you ladies out there whose husbands or partners have good jobs that allow them to provide for their families while being home for dinner, kissing the kids good night, helping them with homework and spending the weekends together......count your blessings.

You might not realize it, but you are so lucky. Treasure every day and enjoy every minute of it.

I am off to spend little more time with my wonderful Average Joe.

P.S. Don't worry this will pass. It always does. It just takes little bit of time.....I will survive!

Monday Music - Blast From The Past

Yesterday I was getting all melancholy and thinking about my teenage years. I remember driving my parents wild with plastering posters all over my room.

Then I realized that I haven't heard those songs in many, many years.

Well, thanks to modern technology called YouTube  and freebie week @ Monday Music Moves Me.....today I am sharing with you piece of my past (don't judge me to harshly).

I Think The Sun Was Kidnapped & I Need It Back

I am so glad it's FRIDAY!!!!

I know we just finished winter holidays, but this first week of 2011 was not my favorite.

It was'nt all bad, BUT.......

....it could have been better. Just saying.

It all started on New Year Eve when my good friend's mom went into a surgery and never made it out. She was ill and wasn't doing that great, but everybody expected her to get better and make it home. Life had different plans for her.

So I think that set the tone for the week in my head. I know there was not much I could do except being there in case my friend needs me.....and I was....still am.

Then the weather just turned cold, nasty and the sun runaway. Don't know where don't know why, but I suspect Jimmy Buffet and Kenny Chestney kidnapped it and took it to the Caribbean.

All I know that I need it back cause I can feel the crankiness and depression WINTER BLUES coming on.

I decided to be more organized and more focused in 2011. Now, don't you go mistaking it with resolutions cause I made none. This is the year I decided to break the tradition of making resolutions.

Anyway, I made a daily schedule to keep me on track, but the winter blues declared a thumb war and it is winning.

The good thing about the first week is......the kids went BACK TO SCHOOL!!!

Unfortunately so did my sister 4 day course away from home and I am taking care of her two boys (6 and 8) known as the Beastie Boys.

Lets just say.....I've been up since 4am courtesy of the Beastie Boys and their lack of proper behavior, respect for others and listening skills trades they got from their mother. I AM NOT AN HAPPY AUNT!!! (and sister).

I am sure next week I will have a wonderful post featuring my favorite the only ones nephews.

This will be an interesting day and lets hope they understood my last threat @ 4:52 CLEARLY.

Have an awesome weekend (someone might as well)!

Sometimes Mommy Just Can't.....WW

Do your kids know the perfect moment when to ask you for something knowing that the answer will be probably, big odds in their favor YES?

Well, my kids get teach others how to spot that perfect moment.

Few days before winter break my boys picked the perfect time and asked me to take them tobogganing. How did they know I wouldn't give him one of my: "We'll see what we can do" or the classic "it depends not sure on what" it's beyond me.

They knew that I will give them the very rare and bordering on being extinct "Sure, I will take you during the winter break, I PROMISE".

Somehow the winter break just flew by and there it was.....JANUARY 1st, 2011....New Year Day. The day after a great party that ended at 4am....one of the rare occasions that mommy has a few drinks. Let the record show mommy is a cheap date....very cheap date.

Anyway, there I was trying to keep it together and collecting all my strength not to crawl back to bed or under a rock when my beautiful children came running.

"Mom, look outside. It's sunny and this is the DAY we need to go tobogganing. Tomorrow will be cloudy and then we go back to school......YOU PROMISED!"

What's mother to do?  This mother sent daddy.....Love you Average Joe.

I bet you didn't see that coming, did you?

Daddy took the clan and they had some great bonding time before he leaves us again for weeks.

Mommy got her rest and by dinner time all was good in the kingdom again.

This week I am joining A Lot Of Loves for Wednesday of Few Words, 5 Minutes For Moms and Go Graham Go for Wordless Wednesday and Parenting By Dummies for Wordful Wednesday.
