Reality Shows Are Not For Me

Let me just start by saying: "I am not a Reality TV fan".

I will watch some random episodes of different reality shows when there is ABSOLUTELY nothing else on TV and I am too lazy to do anything productive.

I know people who live for REALITY TV and completely lose touch with their reality. I just don't get that.

The biggest problem I have with most reality TV is that lots of arrogant, untalented and no class people became STARS by appearing on NONREALITY shows.

There is no skills, no hard work, no education, no intelligence just willingness to show the world how screwed up you really are and how dysfunctional your family really is..... for the the right price.

Another problem is with how much reality we really see. Is reality really reality?

Most of the people appearing on these shows admit afterward when it all comes tumbling down that what we saw wasn't really REALITY. I say: "If it's reality lets see it".

If reality shows Jon&Kate,Little People,Bachelor, The Apprentice, Real Wives of.... teach us anything is that:
  • reality shows destroy people's lives
  • reality shows break-up marriages and friendships
  • reality shows bring out the worst in people in a name of ratings
That's just the tip of the iceberg......

Watching reality show is almost like watching a train wreck. You know it's coming and there is nothing anyone could do to stop it.

So many people get hurt everyday because some money and stardom hungry dumb ass they are related to decides to get famous. I am just hoping I am not related to one of them.

(Writer's note: Embarrassing my family on my blog doesn't count, does it? I didn't think so.)

So as you can tell I am not a fan.

Lately I have been feeling under the weather and there was nothing on TV so I caught few episodes of few reality shows.

While waiting for my favorite show Castle yummy Nathan Fillion show I caught the end of Dancing With The Stars.

Now, did I miss anything? No offence, but since when is Bristol Palin a STAR? Did the producers run out of actual stars?

I know her as an unwed teenage mother and a daughter of a politician who ran for office and lost badly. Then I heard about her through her family and her baby's teenage daddy airing lots of dirty laundry through any means possible.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have any problems with Bristol. I don't know or care to know Bristol. She is probably nice enough girl and hopefully good mother, but she isn't a STAR.

Lets leave poor Bristol for a second. How about the Sister Wives?

Kody Brown is a polygamist who had three wives, but that wasn't enough.

He married his first wife 20 years ago, second wife 17 years ago and third wife 16 years ago. He is a biological father to 13 children.

Now, most men when they hit mid-life crisis get a sports car, change their job or try to act younger.
Men in polygamist relationship get a younger model new wife to add to their collection.

I watched how Kody was "courting" his new fiance (single mother with 3 kids) while one of his wives told the other ones: "I am happy for him. He deserves to get a trophy wife."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Do you consider yourself and the other two to be chopped liver?
I watched Kody with the help of the entire family move "the trophy wife to be" and her kids one block away from their home after getting engaged since she lived 4 hours away. All I could think about was how her 10 year old son with Asperger's syndrome will cope with such a major changes in his life.

I watched the other three wives getting jealous and upset as the fiance was getting equal "night time" with him.

Apparently, she didn't deserve to have him every fourth night until they are married and she lives under the same roof with them.

I watched them getting married and have 200 people reception which caused more jealousy since the other wives had simple home ceremonies.

One wife walked out from their "little couch session" when she found out that he actually picked out the wedding gown. According to her he didn't give a damn what the rest of them were wearing on their wedding day.

Honestly, I couldn't watch anymore. They pretend to be one happy family and this is what they all want, but seriously I didn't buy it.

The first three wives seem like best friends who just happen to be sharing a man kinda creepy and I actually like them. They were funny, spunky, sarcastic.

The trophy wife I didn't care for. She will have a heck of a time to fit in that little circle and she sure uses her new car smell to get more then the others.

Kody is an idiot with constantly saying and doing the wrong thing. He truly is. My teenage son is more mature then this "grown" manchild with 4 wives and 16 children. He reminds me of Tom Cruise when he was jumping up and down on Oprah's couch.

I have a feeling this will be one giant train wreck that I don't want to watch......ONE BIG MISERABLE HAPPY FAMILY.

Hi Bibi,

I feel the same way. I`m recovering from pneumonia and besides playing on the computer, I watch TV. I just cant watch reality shows. They bore me to death. My daughters love them. I dont get them. There is no intelligence, humor or class in them. It frightens me that this is the next generation of people that are taking care of the world....it really is lazy, cheap TV.

I haven't watched this one or any of the housewives shows.

I do like Survivor, Amazing Race, and So You Think You Can Dance b/c I like the competition part of it all.

Never seen the trophy wife show. Thank God, lol! I watch The Amazing Race, Survivor and Biggest Loser.

But I totally agree with you on these shows. These people become famous and it's just so silly. I was shocked that the Palin girl went on Dancing with the Stars. You're right, how how HOW is she a star? Goofy, just goofy.

I don't watch any reality TV. Now, The Food Network doesn't count as reality TV does it, cause I watch a lot of that!

I have to say that I do enjoy some reality shows - like Keeping up with the Kardashians. I actually think most of their drama is real (not all, but most) and they just have to act it out again sometimes.

I just watched a couple of episodes of "Sister Wives" this afternoon....it was almost like a train wreck, where you can't look away. I was kinda disgusted by that guy. I mean, what makes him think he's man enough to keep four women happy??? I found it to be really creepy....and him to be very egotistical. Alas, though, you are right - there is a lot of crap on tv these days!

I keep hoping these "reality" shows run their course of popularity and we can move on.
I HATE them! And that's just from the commericials!
I think the freaks on those shows only serve to make the viewers feel like they aren't as kooky, pathetic, crazy or trashy. I have no other explanation for it!

I agree with you on the reality tv craptrash.

And I do watch amazong race and that sewing show..um Runway something. I can't stand the drama so much though.

And I agree, when did Bristol become a star? I'm so sick of hearing about those people. I hear anything Palin and I just turn it off. It really does not matter that I'm a republican.
If they really wanted to change and learn form lessons, she'd go back to college and stay home and take care of her baby.
A friend of mine said a girl in her neighborhood told her mother she got pregnant because Bristol Palin makes it looks cool and she too will become famous like Bristol. Talke about face dropping to the floor!

I refuse to even watch the sister wives commercial!

When they run out of stuff to air, they might come watch me clean my house.

So yes I'm shaking my head in agreement with you on this.

I love some reality TV...Big Brother being my fav. I like American Idol sometimes, but only when I feel like it.
Sister Wives, not one I will watch. Watching is supporting and I won't support it. I don't believe in it. It's not to say others don't, and they are certainly entitled to their opinion just as I am mine.
Dancing w/ the Stars...they rarely have "real" stars on there. I've never watched it.

Totally agreed with you. I don't like reality show either. Just a bunch of people making a fool of themselves for the whole world to watch. Hey, but I too am a huge fan of Castle. Can't wait for the next episode. Wish you a great week ahead.

I am not a huge fan of reality shows. I am a Big Brother addict though. I don't do drama in real life so this three month show is my dose of drama for the year. I do love my wedding shows (Say Yes To The Dress and such) and my Food Network shows (Chopped, Iron Chef).

Hi! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. It was very nice to have you! :0) I enjoyed your comment about coming back from Vegas and enjoying the old better than the new. And here I was thinking, "boy, wish I could have gone NOW with all the new casinos popping up!" :0)

I agree with you on Reality TV. Where do they get off? They should save the money they spend making that crap and put it where it really belongs.....like so many people losing their homes, or go to bed hungry because they don't have money for food...yet you click on the boob tube and see "Little People, Big World" enjoying themselves in Hawaii!!! It's infuriating!!!

I'll stop now! But I'm like you...I don't get reality TV either.
Have a good Tuesday!!!
