Dear Teacher Letter

Last full day of school...yikes.

It means so many things and not many of them are pleasant especially if you are a busy parent.

Things like:

It's Sunday night and you just realized June is over and your children need (or should have) presents for their teachers. They don't worry about it. They just remind you of it Monday morning when they are getting ready for a school bus.

Seriously, if you are a parent of school age children and you never been in that situation you are my HERO.

On the other hand if you don't want to admit you've been in that situation then that's a different story and there is a big possibility we would never be friends in a "real life" cause you have some major "perfect parent" issues.

Right now you are probably waiting to see how I took care of the gift crisis situation, don't you?

Ha, I got smart this year. Being the mother of the year so not I bought teachers gifts in January this year.

Oh, yes I did. Have you seen the after Christmas sales this year? They were unfreakingbelievable (I am sure that's a word). I was actually thinking ahead (so painful) and I got awesome presents for even awesomer (sure that's a word as well) price. My boys will be the most favorite kids in the class this year at least once a year - gotta throw them a bone.

This year since I am giving such awesome presents I was thinking to attach a little note to it:

"Dear teacher, please, be a sweetie and help a tired mother out. DON'T send the whole year worth of arts, crafts, poems, workbooks, exams and projects home with my son this year. Do tell my child that his work is so unique that it needs to be kept in school archives to be shared with future generations. I am running of storage space and honestly between you and me - Preschool stuff - ADORABLE, Kindergarten stuff - OH, SO SWEET, Grade 1 - CUTE .....beyond that NOT SO MUCH. I would be eternally grateful and next year I will throw in a batch of my Christmas baking and some Valentine's Day chocolate."

Signed: mother without a storage

I wonder what would happen?

I know few of my blogger friends are teachers. So here is a question for you: "Do I have a change to be crap, oops craft free this year?"

Yeah, I'm a teacher and as soon as today's lunch hour is over, we're packing everything up and sending it home! Sorry! :-)

You'll have to just recycle while they sleep some night! I often take things down to the huge blue bins near the office once the kids have gone home...and then have a recycling monitor march it back later in the week. "Look what got recycled by mistake, Mrs. Winn!!

I hear you though, as my two and four year old have started to bring their lovely colouring pages and crafts home from daycare. How long must these things be displayed before disposal??

I read a great solution to your problem in Family Fun magazine once. The solution: When junior comes home with a project have him hold it up while you snap his picture. You know have evidence of the project and the age at which he created it-but no storage issues. Maybe keep all the art pics on a CD so that you can give it to him as a graduation gift someday. Wouldn't that be a nice gift for both of you?

My whole life is about to change. What if we can't afford teacher's gifts?

Ooh I like your idea. I have thought of doing that for regular holiday gifts too.

You have me laughing out loud with that possible note.

Hmm I wonder what I'll do with my kids 'stuff'.

They could use them as wrapping paper at the end of the year right?

Ahh welcome to misery...um summer..and I meant that because the weather is just downright need to have a delete button

I like the picture idea. That way you have evidence of it but it isn't hanging around your house all the time. But pick a few that are sentimental favorites.

I completely forgot about the teacher gift this year. I remembered when I went to pick up my son from school and everyone else was giving the teachers their gifts. I don't remember ever giving MY teachers gifts though.

Oh yea, I remember those days. We stopped with the gifts when the boys got to middle school and too many teachers. Happy School's out for Summer!

Ha ha ha. That's a cute note to the teacher. I am in the same boat. I know what you mean. Every year I do throw most of it away, some of it which my sons think it is their best art, we will take a photo of it instead, safe storage. Have a nice day. Happy parenting.

I only have to worry about my daughter. My son is going into High School next yr so he hasn't given teachers gifts since 5th grade. One more yr for my daughter too.

Good idea buying them in Jan.

I've done that too...bought in January, lol. I'm all for a bargain. I've also Christmas shopped in June and July before...so....lol.

Yeah, what's up with that? Do they expect me to use those last 10 pages in the workbook, or frame the handwriting exercises? There's enough pressure on me already! LOL

Being a teacher, I send home assignments because I get parents who tell me during conferences, "I haven't seen any of their homework all year. I don't know how they're doing in school either."

Did you check grades online like I showed you before? Have you been to the AMAZING website I built strictly on my own time? Have you checked your child's backpack lately?

I understand that it can get old for the parents who do keep up with stuff, but for those who don't…it's safer just to send it all home.

Now that I've said what a great website I have, I have to provide a link:

Yeah, the name should say it all...
